Spikish reading week: 11/11/2010 - 11/18/2010

In no particular order:

NEW READS

* Philip Roth, Nemesis (fiction)

* Glenn Beck, Arguing With Idiots (non-fic)
 *Jason Mattera, Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation (non-fic)

* Partial: Blackberry for Idiots (non-fic) [renewed for another two weeks from San Diego Public, awaiting my own used copy from Amazon!]

BELOVED RE-READS

* T.H. White, The Once and Future King (fiction)

* David Morrell, First Blood (fiction) NOTE: If your entire famiiarity with this title is having seen the "Rambo movie," you owe it to yourself to read the genesis: SO much more two-sided and morally ambigious! You will never watch the first "Rambo movie" the same way again.

* Stephen King, Duma Key

* Norman Spinrad, Riding The Torch -- oh heavens yes, if ANYONE can find this and read it, I am STARVING to discuss it in light of today's Internet culture! Spinrad saw it coming 40 years ago, and I was so grabbed by it at age 12 that I've been waiting for "two-leaps beyond today-level" ever since. (I do believe my grandchildren's children will see the fulfilment...but that's another post altogether.)

* Ayn Rand, Anthem

GENERAL READING NEWS

Time for another library trip. We're an easy and almost always pleasant 8-block walk each way from San Diego Public Main Branch/Downtown, but due to their increasingly invasive policies -- I'm sorry, I will NOT have some random security guard put his hands all over my person under cover of "teaching the nice old lady to work the auto-checkout system" (I was doing just fine, ya pervert; I may be SLOWER than the millennials but I totally understand the technology, and what do my tits have to do with technology anyway?!) and yes, I yelled and made a scene. I had to physically hold Jason back from attacking the dude, which would NOT have been good now that he's trained to kill....disaster averted, lol! We're now methodically working our way through all the branches within easy driving distance, seeking a balance between depth of collection and simple Human courtesy.

End note: PLEASE FORGIVE ALL TYPOS/SPELLING ERRORS. WE'RE STILL WORKING HARD TO RESTORE OUR LOST XP DESKTOP UTILITIES (among a LOT of other things) :-(
